Day 1: Pressure Washing

Watch How Dirt Didn't Stand A Chance

To us here at The Traveling Pheasant, cleaning is therapeutic! The first stage of the horse trailer renovation into a mobile coffee bar is an overall deep clean. Since “Betsy” is so large and was extremely dirty after being stored in a woodland environment in her previous home, we needed a more intense way to clean than with the traditional bucket and sponge.

Enter: Pressure washing!

I had never pressure washed anything before and for someone who loves to clean I was extremely excited to see how “Besty” would shape up. After getting my tutorial on how to operate the wand, I was ready to give it a go. There I was caught off guard by the powerful kick back a few times and my balance skills were tested!

It was so satisfying watching the cobwebs, bugs, chipped paint and dirt fly off and a shining exterior being reveled. The most significant change by far was with the roof. The brown leaf and mildew stains were blasted clean to uncover a bright white paint.

Learning from the roof cleaning process, I did another pass along the sides and into the wheel wells. Satisfied that the majority of debris was now washed away, I cleaned the whole trailer again with car washing liquid the old-fashioned way since the pressure washing was only water- no special cleaner or chemical mixture.

At this point I was soaking wet and my muscles were getting sore, but the inside still needed as much attention as the outside.

As I plan to strip the interior wood and sand down the rusted metal, there was no harm in giving the inside a good pressure wash treatment too. I don’t mind getting my hands dirty but cobwebs and dead bugs are where I draw the line. It was pretty disgusting; I am not going lie!

Overall, it was a successful first day of renovation. There is a long road ahead but now we are starting on a clean slate. I can't wait to see the trailer and the brand take shape! We hope that you follow us on this journey (subscribe below!) and we look forward to serving you delicious, hand-crafted cups of coffee soon!

Until the next adventure,

Heather
