Our Journey

The Traveling Pheasant Mobile Coffee Bar was officially founded in 2020, but its origins go back to 2015. It was originally conceived as “Café Calvert” from my cubicle in an effort to bring good coffee to the office and conversations to my desk.

In December of 2018 I purchased the Breville Barista Touch espresso machine and by October 2019, I opened my own coffee stand at a local craft fair. It was then that my desire to develop my coffee shop musing into a feasible business idea really took hold.

In April of 2020 I was furloughed because of the pandemic and decided to take the leap of faith to make my idea a reality!  By July, I purchased the horse trailer, launched a GoFundMe page for extra support and began the restoration and conversion you see today.

The Traveling Pheasant is based in Anne Arundel County but will travel around the DMV for private bookings and to participate at local events, serve up our signature hand-crafted infused espresso drinks, nitro & cold brew coffees, teas, and ciders with our unique European style.

"I created The Traveling Pheasant around why we drink coffee: success, comfort & connection. We turn to coffee for the drive and motivation to achieve our goals, but also to recharge, refresh, restore and connect with others."

Our Destination

As we grow,  I endeavor to roast our own coffee, creating our very own brand to serve and fuel your day!

We also want to inspire others by helping creative projects take flight through giving back. The Traveling Pheasant will donate a portion of its proceeds to GoFundMe campaigns that foster the entrepreneurial spirit. I was so grateful for extra funds when I was starting out and now look forward to providing the same encouragement.

The Traveling Pheasant will have done its job if we provide fuel for success, creative inspiration, a moment to recharge from the day, and an opportunity to connect with loved ones and coworkers alike. There is nothing better than drinks and conversation.

Our journey is marked by the pursuit of hand-crafted perfection and of course, adventure. Afterall, next to coffee, traveling is our passion and inspiration.

Wanderlust has taken me around the globe and is still going strong. I aspire to keep traveling, experiencing new places and being inspired by new flavors.  The journey is our destination!

Join us in raising a mug to success, coffee and the pursuit of adventure.

About Heather

I believe that a quality cup of coffee should not be so hard to find.

I am happiest when I am creating so converting a vintage horse trailer into a mobile coffee bar was the perfect outlet to bring my café dreams to life.

I appreciate craftsmanship and when things are not rushed or mass produce, but instead made and done properly.

I believe that customer service is being empathetic and welcoming.

I am the friend who is always throwing themed dinner parties because I love being the hostess.

I am extremely indecisive and have a wide range of interests, resulting in a unique style that is elegant and refined, yet welcoming and cozy.

I hold a BSc in Mass Communication and Advertising from Towson University and a Masters of Letters (MLitt) in Marketing from the University of St Andrews.

I have 10+ years of experience in the marketing and event industries - and coffee got me through it all.

What's In A Name?

The name “The Traveling Pheasant” and its design aesthetic is an embodiment of my past, personality and style.  My passion has always been to travel and experience new places, cultures and coffees.

I studied abroad in Denmark during my junior year in college, earned my postgraduate degree in Scotland. After graduation, I lived and worked in both the Scottish Borders and London. So far, I have traveled to 23 countries and have many more I want to explore.

“Traveling” also plays to the mobile nature of the business and the inspiration for the various hand-crafted drinks on the menu. They highlight the smells, emotions and history that make up the place – the way that I experienced it.

As for choosing a pheasant?  I love their colors and the funny way they walk.  They bring a smile to my face and have style like no other.

"The Traveling Pheasant" also invokes the name of an old-world pub – a warm and comforting atmosphere that I welcome you to share.
